About Notoxicom® B6000 and the Notoxicom® brand of polymeric flame-retardant materials
The development of Notoxicom® B6000, a polymeric FR PC/ABS material and the Notoxicom® brand of polymeric flame-retardant materials by Polymer Compounders, originated from a critical assessment of existing flame retardancy solutions. Despite their effectiveness in preventing fire-related fatalities, traditional flame-retardant polymers often contain harmful chemicals that pose significant health and environmental risks. This realization highlighted a fundamental flaw in the industry’s approach to flame retardancy.
The idea for Notoxicom® B6000 emerged from our commitment to addressing these flaws and our determination to develop a safer, more sustainable alternative.
An increasing number of studies in recent years have shown that conventional flame-retardant polymers can leach toxic substances into the environment from their final molded form. These substances can also get into the human body through direct skin contact, causing cancer and endocrine disruption. Some recent examples include:
Fox News: “Americans breathe in carcinogenic chemicals found in cars: study.”
CNN News: “Flame retardants found in thousands of consumer products linked to cancer in people for first time”, Apr 2024
Newsweek: “Toxic Chemicals in Everyday Products ‘Enter the Human Body’ via Touch”, Apr 2024
Science Alert Online: “Humans Can Absorb Toxic Flame Retardants Through Skin”, Apr 2024
Motivated by these studies, we set out to create a flame-retardant material that would eliminate harmful chemicals while maintaining high fire safety standards.
