The GW Martin factory has come a long way since our original cam-auto workshop first opened back in 1967. We’ve always prioritised quality and innovation, and through that have committed to continuously evolve our manufacturing methods to keep pace with modern demands. As part of our 2024 Factory Refresh, our new upgrades mark a significant milestone in our journey towards more sustainable and efficient operations.

The project began with an important step: upgrading the flooring. Some of our machinery was temporarily relocated to improve areas of the floor that had been missed during the installation of the original resin flooring in 2015. The resin flooring brightens the space and provides a durable, easy-to-maintain surface that enhances safety and cleanliness.

Next up, we enlisted the expertise of Gemini Roofing and Cladding Ltd to install a brand new roof. Thanks to the careful planning and hard work of the team, the installation was completed in just eight days!

The most recent phase of the factory refresh focused on expanding our solar power capacity. Working with Empower Energy Ltd, our original 150kW solar panel system was reinstalled and an additional 90kW was added, bringing total capacity to an impressive 240kW. With 554 solar panels now in operation, GW Martin will generate more energy than needed during peak summer months, allowing us to export surplus power back to the grid. Even with 24/7 operations throughout the year, the upgraded system is expected to provide over 30% of our factory’s annual energy requirements – approximately 170,000kWh – and save 40,000kg of CO2 each year.

By embracing solar power and implementing other energy-saving initiatives like air source heating and LED lighting, we’re continuing to reduce our carbon footprint and provide our customers with a sustainable supply of machined parts.
